Kenilworth Park District Little Springs Summer Camp

Pay Range: $20 - $25/Hour based on qualifications.

Dates: June 11, 2018 – July 27, 2018

Monday- Friday from 8:30AM – 1:45PM

 

The Kenilworth Park District is looking to build its team of summer camp staff with a professional, knowledgeable kindergarten teacher. Teacher Reports To: Little Springs Camp Director

Teacher Supervises: Aide, counselors, and Children

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carries out the mission, vision and values of the Little Springs Summer Camp
  • Maintains an open, friendly and cooperative relationship with each child and family.
  • Encourages each family to be actively involved in the program.
  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum to nurture and stimulate the social, physical, cognitive and cultural needs of the children in care.
  • Responsible for developing lesson plans for the classroom
  • Report any classroom concerns to the Director.
  • Regularly attend staff meetings and training.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and health and safety needs of the children including allergies, potty training and developmental concerns.
  • Conducts classroom and parent meetings
  • Responsible to communicate with parents on child development issues, policies or other concerns related to their child.
  • Maintains a neat, orderly and safe classroom
  • Creates an inviting and stimulating environment for the children.
  • Responsible for securing health, hygiene, safety and overall well-being of children at all times.
  • Must have the ability to nurture respectful relationships with clients and children and must be sensitive to client’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Maintains constant communication with parents about their children including emailing fun and creative weekly newsletters.
  • Involves the classroom counselors and Aides in curriculum planning
  • Strict compliance with Universal Precautions in the classroom and when administering First Aid
  • Assist children with changing soiled clothing (if necessary), using restroom, and maintaining communication with the parent on the child’s progress.
  • Meeting the needs of the children in care in regards to meals, proper hand washing, naps or rest periods and age appropriate activities.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by the Director or other Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications :

(Option A):

12 Units of coursework in Early Childhood Education or closely related field** and 6 months of experience working in a licensed child care facility. Work experience for Teachers in an Infant program must have been with children under the age of 5.

(Option B):

Child Development Associate Credential and 6 months of experience working in a licensed child care facility.

(Option C):

Child Development Associate Teacher Permit (or higher) issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing

(Option D):

AA degree in Early Childhood Education or related field

BA degree in Early Childhood Education or related field

**Coursework must include Child or Human Development, Child, Family and Community and (2) Program/ Curriculum courses. Teachers in an infant program are required to take 3 units related specifically to Infant/ Toddler Care.

Other Requirements:

  • Current CPR / First Aid certification
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean DMV record
  • 15 hours of continued professional growth annually, if hired. This can include workshops or trainings from outside agencies or continued education at a college or university.
  • Must pass a State and Federal Background Check

Special Skills:

This job involves working in a child care environment. The employee must have the ability to work around children. Must be in good health and physically and mentally capable of performing assigned tasks. The Teacher shall provide for the care and safety of children without physical or verbal abuse, exploitation or prejudice. Skills necessary include:

  • The ability to bend, stoop, and lift children up to 100 lbs. Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified candidates who cannot meet this requirement.
  • Repetitive bending, stretching, and stooping
  • Have mobility required to ensure the safety of the children
  • Work with children on the floor
  • Work outdoors in any variety of weather
  • Change diapers on changing table
  • Perform light duty cleaning
  • Fully capable to have visual or hearing capabilities consistent with Child Licensing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in administrative and managerial ability, particularly in the areas of operations, supervision, finance and marketing.
  • Must be computer literate with a basic understanding of bookkeeping skills software programs.
  • Must know basic human resources, company employee policies and general state labor laws.
